Which benefits does Smart Home offer?

The term Smart Home stands for the modern possibilites of home automation. Smart Home is a household, where household and multimedia devices are networked, interact with each other and can be controlled remotely from a central location. This results in many advantages:

Save energy

With home automation, you can reduce your energy consumption and therefore your electricity costs, because you only use energy when you are in the house. Never heat out the window again by combining smart radiator thermostats with door and window contacts.

More security

With smart technology, you can always keep an eye on your home. Smart alarm systems inform you immediately if something is wrong. Motion detectors, cameras and contact detectors can be used for networked home monitoring. And in the event of a fire? Networked smoke detectors sound the alarm in good time.

More convenience

Automated applications are pure convenience. No more time-consuming raising of shutters, no more lifting garage doors. Gentle staircase lighting is triggered by motion detectors. The coffee is freshly made in the morning. Is the sun suddenly shining stronger than you expected? Extend the awning while you're out and about. And in the evening? Your preheated living room awaits you with feel-good lighting and your favorite music.

Value enhancement

There's no doubt about it: among the numerous options, there are also many gimmicks between the useful and helpful applications. But whether necessary or not, equipping your property with intelligent technology will increase its value and prepare it for the demands of the future. The investment is worthwhile in any case. After all, it has long been clear that smart technology will soon be standard equipment.

Removing barriers

Intelligent home technology is not only convenient, it can also be the solution for reducing barriers and making life easier in old age or ensuring that people can live alone in their own four walls for much longer. Good examples of this are the integration of age-appropriate assistance systems and the automation of everyday operations, e.g. for shutters, windows, lighting and heating.

Which possibilites does modern building automation offer?

Modern building technology is used to automate everyday processes and to adapt and control device settings conveniently, easily and quickly to your individual needs both at home and on the move using a smartphone, computer, hand signals or voice commands.

Depending on the smart home system, you can control and query practically everything that you can connect to compatible devices. In addition to the central control unit, there are so-called sensors and actuators. The sensors check certain things and then send corresponding signals to the actuators, which then operate the corresponding function on the desired device. Here are a few examples.

Questions you'll never have to worry about again with a smart home

  • Are all the windows closed?
  • Is the stove off?
  • Have I turned down the heating?
  • Who is at the door?
  • Is my house safe when I'm on vacation?
  • How will the neighbor get in to water the flowers when I'm on vacation?
  • Have I retracted the awning?
  • What if somone does break in?
  • What else do I need to buy?

Automated throughout the day

The simplest function of a smart home is, of course, that time-based scenes can be programmed in. For example, 30 minutes before you have to get up, the heating is turned up and 10 minutes before, the shutters open a little.

When it is time to get up, they open fully and the light dims slowly for a moment until you are awake. You can also listen to your favorite song, which slowly gets louder and louder. This wakes you up without stress.

Of course, you can program other scenes for your weekend and, if you wish, you can even use an electronic calendar to set all public holidays.

Scenes with motion detectors

Turning on the light when you enter a room is no longer something special. Motion detectors make it possible. However, with a connection to your smart home, entire scenes can be activated as soon as certain rooms are entered.

For example, lights can be switched off directly as soon as other light sensors are activated elsewhere. In this way, an entire corridor can be kept illuminated. At night, the cameras can also be switched on to record who was present. Above a desired light threshold, the motion sensors are switched off so that the lights do not come on during the day.

Scenes with sun sensors

With a sun sensor, the shutters open when it gets light, depending on the setting. It is also possible to extend an awning in the same way. As soon as it gets dark again, everything closes again. In an office room, however, the following would also be conceivable: You set it so that when the sun is dazzling in the window, the shutters automatically lower until the glare stops. If necessary, additional lighting is switched on to maintain optimum brightness.

Do I still have milk, eggs and vegetables?

It's often the little things that make you feel the convenience of technology: With a smart fridge, you can see what's currently in it through a fridge camera, even when you're on the move.

As soon as you switch to the camera from your cell phone using the app, the internal fridge lighting comes on and you can see how many eggs you have left and whether there is still enough milk in the fridge.

Is the stove still on?

We've all been there: you're on your way to the office and wonder whether you've really turned off the oven and hob. One option would be to drive back to check or to live the whole day with the uneasy feeling that the oven might still be on.

With a smart home and a connected stove, you can conveniently see this when you're out and about and you'll even be warned when you leave the house. And the best thing is: if you have actually left the hob or oven on, you can also switch it off conveniently while you are out and about.

Scenes with weather stations

Just as the sun sensors on the windows can show you the position of the sun, weather stations can show you what the weather is like indoors and also provide a reliable forecast.

Is the humidity rising, is the wind blowing and is it threatening to rain? The weather station ensures that the awning is retracted. At the same time, the roller shutters are lowered a little so that the windows do not get wet.

When the rain starts, the shutters are lowered completely, the lights come on a little and as soon as it's all over, the lights go out while the shutters are raised again.

How do I use a Smart Home?

To access the system, you can choose from various control elements to control and program the Smart Home applications. How you want to control your home and which different elements you want to use is entirely up to you. We present the most commonly used types below:

Smartphone, tablet & Co.

Most people associate a smart home with control via smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop PC at home. Less well known, however, are portable hand-held transmitters, i.e. practically dedicated remote controls or permanently installed control panels or smart switches. After all, you want to be able to control your home even when your cell phone is in the charging station and your tablet is being used by someone else.

Siri, Alexa, Google & Co.

But operating a smart home via your cell phone doesn't necessarily mean that you have to pull out your phone, start the app provided and navigate to the appropriate menu to make the right settings. Smart also means that you can integrate existing voice assistants such as Siri, Alexa and Google into your smart home so that you can give voice commands from the comfort of your couch.

Which smart home system?

There are many systems - it always depends on what you intend to do with it, what you value and what your price expectations are.

  1. Data security

There are products for innovative home automation in every price category. However, cheap no-name products often have a decisive disadvantage: shortcomings in data security. High-quality branded products, on the other hand, generally guarantee a high level of data security.

  2. Flexibility

The market for building automation and intelligent applications is constantly growing. You should remain flexible here, as it is likely that you will want to expand your smart home system in a few years' time. Radio-based systems are particularly easy and uncomplicated to retrofit with additional components.

Whether apartment or house, rented or owned, new build or renovation: smart home solutions are always possible.

Do you want an open or closed system? We will be happy to advise you individually and recommend a product that meets your requirements.

Retrofitting a smart home

Of course, if you have a new build, a smart home system can be planned, wired and connected in the best possible way. But there are also simple solutions in all areas for retrofitting your desired system.

There are various retrofit solutions that use different types of networking. Possible types for intelligent communication between the connected devices include radio, Bluetooth, bus cable, Internet, power line and the WLAN network. There is no general answer in advance as to which transmission is best. It depends on which brands you prefer and what you want to control. This in turn determines which smart home system is suitable for you and how it connects to the connected devices.

Based on our experience and knowledge of the products and systems on the market, we can provide you with the best advice in the smart home sector. Regardless of whether you already have specific “smart” wishes or not - simply come to us. We will provide you with comprehensive advice, recommend products that have proven themselves over the long term and implement everything the way you want it.

Smart building - building control for companies

Smart Building is ba‌si‌cal‌ly like Smart Home, but for com‌mer‌cial buil‌dings. Nowadays, hard‌ly any com‌mer‌cial buil‌ding is con‌struc‌ted wit‌hout a buil‌ding con‌trol sys‌tem. Find out from us about the pos‌si‌bi‌li‌ties, the dif‌fe‌rent sys‌tems and why we are one of the best cont‌acts for smart buil‌ding concepts.

Smart building in office buildings

Smart building in office buildings

Every employer expects productivity and efficiency from its employees. It is well known that employee commitment increases with employee satisfaction. This makes it all the more important to create an environment in which a pleasant working atmosphere can develop. The room temperature, for example, is crucial here. If it is only a few degrees below or above the ideal value of 21 degrees Celsius, performance decreases. Intelligent temperature control ensures optimum use of the heating or air conditioning system.

Energy costs

In addition to the feel-good temperature, energy costs also play a major role. Unnecessary heating or cooling is a thing of the past thanks to measuring sensors. If the contacts register an open window, for example, the heating flow can be interrupted automatically so that money is not “burned” unnecessarily - in the truest sense of the word.

Sensors such as a weather station can detect that it is too warm outside and that the sun is shining directly into certain windows.
Smart building in schools and kindergartens

Smart building in schools and kindergartens

Intelligent building control in schools and kindergartens is much more than just centrally controlled roller shutters or temperature control for the entire building. It regulates and adjusts independently by reacting to certain conditions, such as the weather, so that energy can be saved and lessons can run smoothly. Thanks to the corona experience, CO2 sensors can also measure whether the ventilation system should be activated so that the building control system can automatically switch the ventilation on and off based on this data.

Saving energy

How often is the heating on when the windows are cracked open in class to let some oxygen into the room? What use is the most efficient LED lighting if it is switched on even though everyone has already left the school building? With an intelligent building control system, you can prevent such circumstances.

Weather and window sensors can be used to determine whether the sun is shining in to a certain extent. The building control system can then react.
Smart building in public facilities

Smart building in public facilities

Major cuts in the budget make it a challenge for many public facilities to meet the needs of users. If the heating is on when the window is open or the light is on for hours in an unused room, the high energy bills will mercilessly expose such negligence. This cannot happen with a building control system. Even shading can be completely automatic in summer, so that seminar rooms, for example, do not heat up during non-usage times.

Security management

As there is an increased need for personal security, particularly in public facilities such as schools or swimming pools, modern monitoring systems have become essential. Networking the building control system with a video system enables centralized management of the entire building.

Smart building in public facilities - camera surveillance
Window sensors can be used to detect whether windows or entrances have been opened. The alarm and video surveillance are then activated.
Smart building in hospitals

Smart building in hospitals

The high cost pressure caused by empty healthcare budgets and rising personnel and administration costs is forcing hospitals and their administrations to act efficiently and economically. Savings are the inevitable consequence - but these should not be at the expense of the patient. The building technology of the 21st century offers the opportunity to reduce costs and improve patient care at the same time. In a modern hospital, the digital control and communication channels must be designed in a variety of ways in order to meet the requirements.

Patients regulate themselves

In addition to the entertainment function, the touchscreen also offers a connection to the rest of the building technology. This enables patients to make emergency calls, control heating and lighting from their bed and open or close blinds and windows just as easily. Of course, this intelligent infrastructure can be expanded and adapted to new circumstances at any time.
